Sober Living is the motto of a newly built, full service halfway house in San Marcos, Texas. The reason for this building’s name is based on the way that the residents will be housed: in a residence type environment with onsite, or offsite counseling offered to those in need. It is hoped that this combination of onsite and offsite counseling will assist in decreasing drug and alcohol use while assisting the residents to transition into sobriety. Sober Living is run through a non-profit organization, the Foundation for Drug Rehabilitation (FDR), which has a grant program focusing on treatment programs for the mentally ill. Many of the Foundation’s clients are also alcoholics looking to get treatment for alcoholism while in a recovery facility.
Most of the Foundation’s residents require some level of inpatient substance abuse treatments to supplement the onsite substance abuse treatment they receive. A portion of each resident’s income is used to supplement the inpatient substance abuse treatment provided by the Foundation, to ensure that the needs of each resident are met. A portion of the Foundation’s income is also used to provide Spanish data provided by the staff members to the families that make specific requests for information in their particular areas of need. In addition, the Foundation provides culturally competent individuals to provide Spanish data to families in need of informational support in the areas of general family preparation, legal matters, and other areas of special need.
Families who need to find a halfway house in San Marcos should contact the Foundation for Drug Rehabilitation at the First Namesake Center for Drug and Alcohol Addiction (DFAC – Alcohol & Drug Addiction Treatment). The facility is equipped to coordinate with both in-house and out-patient substance abuse programs. All in-house programs and several outpatient specialty programs are supported in part by the Foundation. The majority of the residents in the treatment center undergo both in-house and outpatient substance abuse treatment, all of which are supervised by licensed social workers and addiction counselors.
