My name is Brent Woodard and I am a father of six children, a former addict, a husband and father of two…and now I’m an advocate for families experiencing recovery from addiction. I’ve been sober for fourteen years. I’m here to tell you that no one should be ashamed to admit they need help or call a hotline when they need it, nor be judged or punished when they are unable to get their addiction under control. The sober living program that I serve in is housed in a residential treatment facility in Brentwood, California, not far from Loomis and Burbank Airport.
I started attending the sober living program when my oldest son was first released from prison. At that time I had no idea of what to expect or even if I’d be able to get him out. When he was let out, I didn’t know if I could keep the same job I had been leaving because I couldn’t afford to buy a house. After talking with my pastor and a couple of different lawyers and several other people I was able to find an excellent and affordable job as the director of a halfway house. Now that I’m raising my son and working at home I don’t have to worry about a mortgage, a child or being able to make ends meet. It’s been amazing how life just changes so quickly when you’re no longer living in your shoes.
I’ve been very blessed to have some wonderful support from a team of dedicated professionals who work very hard to help people like me. They include support workers, housing providers, and a medical staff. One of the most remarkable things for me has been the support I’ve received from various people within the organization including language services and financial planners. My experiences at the Brentwood CA residential short-term treatment center have taught me a lot about how to support others in similar situations and how to do the same myself. If you need help with substance abuse types of problems please give me a call and we can discuss your situation and provide you with a free consultation.
