Services received by residents of a Sober Living home vary greatly. The emphasis in most transitional and supportive housing is on inclusion, empowerment, and re-entry. The focus on inclusion is to identify and promote self-sufficiency beginning at the transition from residential care to living on your own. The focus on empowerment is to encourage participation in wellness activities, development of strengths and resources, and referrals to appropriate providers in order to facilitate recovery. Other services offered in a Sober Living home include employment preparation, medical treatment, life skills training, and professional development. Some residents participate in short-term or long-term care facilities. A short-term care facility is usually a respite care service where services are provided under the supervision of professionals. The long-term care facility is usually an assisted living community or nursing home where full-time, in-home support is provided under the supervision of skilled health care professionals. Residents may receive medical care under the care and control of physicians or specialists in their particular field of specialty. Services provided by the Sober Living Homes include housing, meals, transportation, support within the communities, and support at the local level. The community provides a sense of security for families experiencing withdrawal from drug addiction. Families are able to build on their strengths and experience the benefits of residential care. Sober Living Homes aims to build a strong foundation for recovery through individual and group therapy, education, and support. These services are provided to people suffering from addiction who are at high risk of relapse.
